Weekly Humorist, a humor magazine I often submit to and occasionally get in, runs these Hashtag Games on Twitter (X), where they name a topic and we submit humorous responses. These games play right into my gag reflex, so I always throw up something. I've taken to setting my calendar to get online every Wednesday to "play" (and by "play" I mean submit content to their website for free--I like to think of it as pun bono work). I always submit a bunch of them on X (Twitter) and some of them get selected for inclusion to their online site. This was a decent twist on the hashtags, despite my lack of knowledge of any video games post 1980. And making obscure Watergate and cyclone reference would seem to be a handicap, but I got in 5, so that's pretty good. And I even managed to get political. I mean, villainous covers a wide range of topics.

I mean, to be honest, I didn't get a lot of the jokes, but then my knowledge of appetizers is from Chili's. I've been coming into the games a little late, so I try to check out what's up, as not to repeat or copy anything. But here, someone made a post about the movie 12 Monkeys and I instantly thought monkey bread and we were off to the races. I got 8 picked, so that was good. They didn't pick my favorite. A number of people posted variations on "Artichoke Dip." I decided to flip it and post "Choke Artie Dip." I thought it was cute. Anyway, as we reach the End Times, leave some room for:

I almost didn't bother submitting to. It's been very sex-related lately. I guess they have their reasons. I was ready to click off then a joke popped into my head, so I submitted it. Then another, then I did the usual thing, googling a list of space movies and synonyms for "nookie." wound up doing the usual dozen or so and got 7 in. Enjoy!

Then the topic came up. They keep going back to the blue topics and it was underwhelming. I mean, how many versions of "Snickerdoodle" can there be? I got a couple in, but I was disappointed my favorite one didn't make the grade. I mean, I make a reference to the 1970's porn disco hit by saying How do ya like it? How do ya like it? And I respond: s’more-s’more-s’more! How did that get passed over as opposed to the 5th variation of snickerdoodle? WH is still pushing their in-house tweets, but I noticed they picked some others who happen to post similar puns instead, so there's hope.

The categories are getting looser, no matter what the adjective is, the results are usually just bad puns of the topic. I managed to come up with my usual dozen, but only managed to get 4 into the finals. And, again, getting concerned. There didn't seem to be a whole lot of activity on the hashtag game and the "winners" were the magazine's own and those of some staff members. This on top of a lack of reaction to my last submission is setting this up to be a blue Christmas.

I mean, I know it says "carols" but they pretty much mean any Christmas song, really. And to avoid the ones I saw posted already, I googled a list of other popular tunes, to widen my net. It got pretty scatological, however, I scored a six on this week's leaderboard. So Merry Christmas and yay, me!

Falling behind again, this is from 12/3, which I should've posted last week, but here we are.
I mean, it was almost like there were too many toys to choose from. I finally did pull up a list of toys (most popular, hall of famers) and just went pun-happy. They say "chop," but it was pretty much just making a toy sound unpopular. I got 9 picked, so no complaints here Weekly Humorist, a humor magazine I often submit to and occasionally get in, runs these Hashtag Games on Twitter (X), where they name a topic and we submit humorous responses. If WH did a hashtag game on 11/26, I missed it as I was elbow-deep in stuffing prep. Oh, a segue! Here's the game from 11/17 all about side dishes!

Last week's game was the last heading into Halloween, and I thought it was going to be a tough one; I mean how many synonyms for "zombie" are there? And how many superheroes? It took a little bit for the gears to start meshing, but then the puns started to flow. I mean, I submitted almost 20 bits, and got nine in, so that's a pretty decent showing. I did look up the Top 100 superhero movies and that also opened a door...they considered things like "The Mask" and James Bond superhero movies, so that opened up the opportunities for humor. So, for a last whiff of Halloween, check out:

Now that we are in Spooky season, WH is sidling into the holiday with their usual horror-themed hashtag games. It gets tricky to do puns with horror films these days because so many titles are one syllable word titles and you really have to work at it. On the other hand, my love of older movies comes into play and it's easier to pun off a title that everyone is aware of. I got 5 included in the latest batch, so, I'm holding on. And I should have an article being posted soon, as well. Happy Halloween!
