Only two shows this week because of the Thanksgiving break. But I got a joke in each, so I'm happy. I try to mix it up between sharp, biting truth-to-power jokes and goofy, silly jokes. We skew goofy, silly this week. Which is fine. In fact, when I come up with a good goofy punchline or pun and sometimes get the vibe it's right up the producer's alley and I'm often correct. Not an outstanding week for me. I got a solid joke in about the medal of Freedom, but I got aced out of a couple days' videos. Zip, zilch, nada. Then the next day, I'd get two in, so I guess it evens out. Not much to add, except to remind you, TMI: Daily is on the TMI: Hollywood Facebook Page weeknights at 6pm on (Hollywood time). And here's my contributions for last week: Okay, let's rant. Sean Connery dies. It's 2020, so I write a joke about double-oh seven being taken out by 2020. Not the funniest joke, but I liked the play on 007 vs. 2020. I mean, I even wrote it out as double-oh seven. They changed it to 2020 took out James Bond. How's that even a joke? My logic is there, 2020 being so bad it's killing indestructible people like James Bond, but I wanted to bump it up a bit. But, no, no, they rewrote that. It wasn't better. Just different. Maybe worse. I know, I know, writers get re-written, but it just gets to me after awhile. I write alone. I tend to fall in love with my words, so I feel it. It's been this way since junior high school. I joined the school paper as a way to express myself. My first assignment was to interview a teacher about an upcoming school event. I clumsily did the interview and submitted it. When the paper came out, my byline was there, but there was not a single word I had written. They event had changed and the teacher spoke to the supervisor of the paper directly to update the information. She explained it to me, but I feel...bad. I didn't get a shot to rework it. I'm reading it for the first time with no idea and I felt it was wrong to have my name on it. Otherwise, it was an average week dealing with the election and its aftermath. And, once again, TMI: Daily is on the TMI: Hollywood Facebook Page weeknights at 6pm on (Hollywood time). And here's my contributions for last week: An average week for me, but with a higher level of aggravation for me. I'm seeing a lot of my topics used, but the punchlines go off kilter. I mean, there was a joke about Tucker Carlson losing his big, important documents in the mail. Everyone heard about it. I wrote a couple of punchlines; -Oh, well, back to just making things up. -Apparently along with Trump's healthcare plan, stimulus package and tax returns. -Man, that Postmaster General can't get nothing right. So how do they rewrite the joke? With a line about the dog eating the report, just like every third tweet and post online. And a shout-out to the Canadian girlfriend thing. Look, there was a thing I learned, from actual comedy people, that you don't go with the first idea that pops into your head, because, odds are, it popped into everyone else's head, too. And I really try to do that, I try to let a premise rattle around in my skull until I can figure out how to come at it from a different angle. That's why I like working on ComedyWire, I get to see how other people's minds work and to see who else came up with my kind of punchline. And avoid it. Do I get too obscure or inside? I don't know. But I feel like I'm making an effort above and beyond and it's just not being noticed. It was a trying week also, because I got nothing in for the first two nights. Zip. Finally starting on Wednesday, I started seeing variations on my material, so, I'm including those. And, as per usual, TMI: Daily is on the TMI: Hollywood Facebook Page weeknights at 6pm on (Hollywood time). And here's my contributions for last week: An average week for me, a decent number of jokes were used, with some slightly re-worded punchlines, but if I used the phrase "head wound" and you use the phrase "head wound" in the rewrite, I'm taking the credit. But there are days like, how many Trump jokes are too many? I'm grabbing some of my material off my Comedywire submissions, and I'm extracting my tweets. Right now, everything is practice for TMI: Daily. And remember... TMI: Daily is on the TMI: Hollywood Facebook Page weeknights at 6pm on (Hollywood time). And here's my contributions for last week: Wasn't a great week for me this week on the show. To be honest, I started off the week feeling I was off my game, but, surprisingly, got a couple of jokes in. Then towards the end of the week, I was thought I was really cooking, but nothing got picked. Very frustrating, especially recognizing a couple of the set-ups were mine. Anyway, TMI: Daily is on the TMI: Hollywood Facebook Page weeknights at 6pm on (Hollywood time). And here's my contributions for last week. It was another odd week on the show. First, the group didn't do a show on Monday, as they were still dealing with the death of Matt Marcy. Then Wednesday they didn't do a show because of the VP debates, but they still did the monologue, TMI: Daily Wrap Up, which I didn't submit to because I thought they were taking the day off, despite the fact that we did do a special show for the Presidential debate. And Friday, I really didn't get anything up. But on Tuesday, they did something unusual. As I included in the video, we had written a ton of Trump gets. COVID jokes for that day's show. But then it looked like he was really sick, so they decided not to do any monologue that day. But once Trump turned his illness into another reality TV episode, they pulled out the material and I got 3 jokes in that way, So my batting average is closer to normal. I have to be honest, the last couple of weeks it's been difficult to keep churning out material for this and over things I've been working on. I haven't written anything long form in ages, even prior to the lockdown. And with the day joy still in effect, it's not like I've been sitting around binging on TV. At least I feel like I'm using some of my energy tweeting and directing it to the show here. Anyway, TMI: Daily is on the TMI: Hollywood Facebook Page weeknights at 6pm on (Hollywood time). And here's my contributions for last week. It was a pretty good week for me. Again, a bunch of jokes, but re-worded punchlines. When I use the phrase "body count-wise" it wasn't on accident, yet it gets re-worded into a much longer, less clever sentence. Or use a sledge hammer on the RBG line. But, it's nice to vent my frustrations about current events and have an outlet for my snark. Anyway, you can watch TMI: Daily on Facebook, (the TMI: Hollywood page) weeknights at 6pm on (Hollywood time) or catch it as a podcast. Enjoy! The show returned to its normal format, opening jokes and discussion panel. I got in a number of jokes, but with asterisks. The set-ups are mine and the intent of the punch lines, but they were tinkered with. Like the "disgruntled employee" jokes. I wrote, "Boy, this administration sure generates a lot of disgruntled employees." They choose to go with the "gruntled employee" trope. Or the PR aid. My set-up and my punchline mentioned paper towels, so I'm making claim to that joke. A couple of the punchlines got longer; if I put an either/or joke and they extended it to a run of three, (which granted, is the rule of comedy) or a few "really, really well"s after my line ended. It is what it is, so to speak. Anyway, you can watch TMI: Daily on Facebook, back on, weeknights at 6pm on (Hollywood time) or catch it as a podcast. Enjoy! Had to battle a format change and a new host, as the full TMI: Daily took a break last week and just went forward with the monologue, now christened TMI Daily Wrap Up. I got a couple of re-worked jokes in, but the new guy tried really hard to make it his own. The Oscar joke was edited...the set up was mind, the long winded punch-line wasn't, but the "#OscarsSoWoke" button was mine, so I adjusted it. Anyway, you can watch TMI: Daily on Facebook, back on, weeknights at 6pm on (Hollywood time) or catch it as a podcast. Enjoy! |
