Weekly Humorist, a humor magazine I often submit to and occasionally get in, runs these Hashtag Games on Twitter (X), where they name a topic and we submit humorous responses. These games play right into my gag reflex, so I always throw up something. I've taken to setting my calendar to get online every Wednesday to "play" (and by "play" I mean submit content to their website for free--I like to think of it as pun bono work). I always submit a bunch of them on X (Twitter) and some of them get selected for inclusion to their online site. I'll be honest, I had a rough week. We had multiple root canals (the same tooth, done multiple times) and other at-home duties, so I didn't get into the game until late, and managed to get a couple posted, but only a couple made the cut. Plus, the WH site has me on some sort of restricted access to the article, so I didn't get to see the whole list. I hope you can! Enjoy:

I got very tied up with some things and before you knew it, it was 2 hours into the hashtag game. I had to hustle to get up a dozen or so. I tried looking up a list of common drugs, then I just pulled up a list of famous robots. It was kinda easier to go in from that direction. Despite my late start, I got some good ones in. Although I don't know if my computer screen keeps resetting or if they posted a couple of duped entries. I mean, all medicines sound alike, so I guess that was unavoidable...

But I manage to submit enough double entendres to get 6 into the finals here. I had to pull up a list of car makers and models, but a bunch came out of thin air, so I was productive. Well, as productive as a hashtag game can be. Check it out:

I always submit a bunch of them on X (Twitter) and some of them get selected for inclusion to their online site. This was a fun topic. And it's always these kinds that I have to go look up a list of sit-coms. There's so many, my brain tends to freeze up trying to think of them. And the same 4 just keep popping up over and over. I started slow and wound up posting round 20 or so. I was still posting hours after the game started (and probably ended). I got to 10 and figured that's enough, then I notice some other guy was posting a lot of entries. That go my completive spirit going and I jumped back in. Anyway, what's there is below at the link. Let me know if the website comes up for you. It's been acting weird today.

I always submit a bunch of them on X (Twitter) and some of them get selected for inclusion to their online site. I was kind of swamped on the day of this game and didn't think I'd do it. Once it went up, one joke popped into my head. So I posted it. Then another. And another. I was back in. But I didn't do any GIFs with most of them. They didn't seem to have any or my puns confused the search function. I even popped back on more than an hour later when what was (a pretty obvious home) popped up. And one of my jokes got used in the opening paragraph of the column. Eight made the cut:

I always submit a bunch of them on X (Twitter) and some of them get selected for inclusion to their online site. This was an unexpected topic. And a hard one, too. WH tends to grab a number of ideas first and present them as examples (and "winners"). There don't seem to be a lot of fairy tales...I mean after you hit the Disney movies, where to you go? To Google. I did the usual, looked up both fairy tales and synonyms for frugal. I managed to get some original and off-beat ones. And I came up with one or two that I'm pretty proud of. And many people were able to do variations on the same ones (Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks) that each were solid. It's making farty puns with fish. What else can I say? This was a hard one and in the end, instead of coming up with puns on the flower names, I inserted the flower into a phrase, that was generally angry. So I really mixed it up, logging in with 18 and getting 11 picked. So, yay me. I always submit a bunch of them on X (Twitter) and some of them get selected for inclusion to their online site. This week's topic threw me. I found it hard. I'm not really a drinker and I don't know a lot about cats. There were a lot of duplicate entries this week and some people tried so hard to be unique, they wandered into obscure. Maybe that's why they were late this week, pushing out the notification of the game on their site. I only got 3 entries included. That was out of nine, so okay. And they were 2 of my favorites. I always submit a bunch of them on X (Twitter) and some of them get selected for inclusion to their online site. Not much to say about this. The topic came up. I had to pull up a list of top Sci-Fi movies. I decided to stay with the synonyms for psycho while many decided just to play around with movie names any-which-way. I got several in, so I did okay. |
