On Sept. 14, 1986, a new cartoon show hit the airwaves. It was a western, set in the future. It had cowboys, robot horses, an evil queen, a bird pirate, a space sorcerer, psychocrypts and star stones, with just a hint of irony, humor and environmental awareness.
I got to be there at the beginning, when the show had been sold and programmed, and all they had to do was actually write and produce the actual episodes. I thought I had talked about the show on the blog, but it turns out I hadn't much. I did have links to various media where we did discuss the show, but now's a good time to pull out my box of GR treasures, some prose and some memories. Here's how Wikipedia lists it: The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers or simply Galaxy Rangers, is an American animated space Western television series created by Robert Mandell and produced by Transcom Media, Inc. and Gaylord Entertainment Company.[1] It was broadcast in syndication between 1986 and 1989.[2] The series combines sci-fi stories with traditional wild west themes. It is one of the first anime-style shows produced mainly in the United States, although the actual animation was done by the Japanese animation studio Tokyo Movie Shinsha. At the time it aired, The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers was considered a revolutionary children's show.[3] |

Happy Meals to You...No, Galaxy Rangers didn't have toys, but we had Kid's Meals! And they rocked!
Attention Was Paid...The show did get noticed in the (geek) press. I had a copy of the magazine with an deep dive into the show around the premier and a second where GR made their top 100 cartoons ever! So, there were people aware of what we had done.
Ax Me AnotherMy first assignment for the show was an episode called "The Ax." And, to be frank, it took me a while to get the hang of this whole show.

Brushes with Celebrity! Jerry OrbachThe year, 1993. The place, Windows on the World, the restaurant atop the North Tower of the WTC. The Writers Guild of America was holding its annual awards dinner and, as a member of the committee that helped plan the event, I got to attend.
