I was lucky to find a place in college; alas, it was in my junior year after transfering to NYU, but find it I did.  I got to be part of the founding staff of a new college humor magazine, "The Plague."  Met some smart and funny guys.  Got to be part of a team.  Got to see some of my first work published.  Got to work with rubber cement. Fortunately, they were starved for material and pretty much printed anything.  And I wasn't exactly knocking myself out creating new material for them at first.  But here is my first article from the first issue.

Okay, since the powers that be can't handle my jokes at Newsbusted, here's the gems they passed over:
AOL bought The Huffington Post for $315 million…
…or about 314,999,999 dollars more than it’s worth.
…because the internet wasn’t liberal enough.
…which explains why my “You have mail” message now has a Greek accent.
…Apparently, Al Jazeera English was asking for too much.
…which means the bloggers won’t get paid by a bigger company now.

The Plague Sods and Peppers Local Garden Club May 1980 vol. 3, no. 4
Good times: writing and creating for the NYU humor magazine, The Plague.  We were few but we were mental.  We could write, do graphics, draw cartoons, photograph stuff, anything we wanted so long as it was funny.  We also had to lay it out ourselves and get it to the printer and deliver it.

This was a cover I created (with tweaking by John Rawlins) where I took items from my vast collection of comedy icons and attempted to mimic the Sgt. Pepper's album cover.  Then John did some copy and pasting (with a copy machine and real paste; it was the 1980, you know) adding some of the characters from the magazine.  Along with the actual name of the magazine.

Also, this issued contained my story, "The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes and the Angry Author" which, as you may know, was recently published in France as part of anthology “Sherlock Holmes Dans Tous Ses États.”  For some reason  it wound up in the Sherlock Holmes Collections at the University of Minnesota, item C22131.

Once there was a place called AOL Homepage.  I used it as an online CV but after awhile my cyber-hoarding instincts kicked in and it became a scrapbook for my various writings.  I'm thinking of doing it here; Keep the website as-is for my resume in some attempt to look professional, but post my old stuff here because I'd like to keep it all in one place online.  We'll see how it goes.
